Marieke is a strong woman in more than just personality, but in physicality as well. Her face is long and oval-shaped, very strong and remarkable. Despite her ability of being unseen, when she is noticed, Marieke is very hard to forget. Her skin, unlike most Victorian ladies of any wealth, is quite tanned. She has never gone to the trouble of attempting to keep in milky-white; she has more important matters to attend to. Her eyes are dark brown, striking in their own regard. Many a person has been caught in that dark gaze, and few have ever been the last to look away. Her equally brown hair is worn long at the insistance of her father. Personally, she has no regard for it, and if it is ever pinned up, it is done so for the sake of practicality rather than any sense of propriety.
Yet Marieke is strong in a sense beyond her noticeable and striking features. She is tall, from her father, and like her father she has trained her body to obey her every whim. Marieke is stronger than most girls her age, toughed by years of weight training, and fencing, and hand-to-hand combat training. She is weaker than those she fights against, and slower. Therefore, she has to hone herself to face those odds as best she can, with her own fierce strength and speed. She is not a gentle woman in any sense of the word.
Her sense of dress matches the rest of her. Dark clothes that she makes as masculine as she dares. Her favorite clothing articles are those she has swiped from her father, like her black coat, the one she typically wears when she goes hunting. Like the rest of her, she demands that her clothing be as practical and durable as the rest of her, though her maids often complain that it simply isn't proper for a woman to look or dress as she does.
{Personality;;} Marieke is the sort of woman that men either avoid or are drawn to. She is tough, with an iron will and a tongue just as sharp. Weak men are intimidated by her large personality, which is only enhanced by her dominating stature and her lack of hesitation in using it. She has always been the sort to do her own thing and go her own way, even as a child, before she became as jaded as she is today. Once something gets into Marieke's mind, you'd best hope that you can stay out of her way, because she is going to see that it happens, and there is little that can be done to stop her.
Ever since she was fourteen, Marieke has been rather jaded about life. She's never bothered to let people think anything other than the truth about her bitter and sarcastic nature. She'll never be the lady that her sister was, or the charmer that her mother was, and she's fine with that; it was never her role in life, and that suits her just fine. However, as a result, Marieke is a bit of a perfectionist. The world has let her down, so she is going to do everything as flawlessly as she can so that she can prove to herself that she is better than the world she hates so bitterly.
Because of her bitter and perfectionistic nature, Marieke is a bit abrasive, and she doesn't bother to soften her blows no matter who she speaks to. The only person she respects at all is her father, whom she loves. He is, in fact, the only thing that she loves, and Marieke will go to no end to protect him from the truth and harshness of life. No insult to him is too small to incite Marieke's ire, and no amount of placating from anyone can lessen her hatred.
The one thing that she hates whole-heartedly, and with the utmost passion, are Vampires. They are not, as naive people believer, monsters or ill people. They are people with a lust for blood, who choose not to control themselves, and strengths that lend them to that end. They took from her a mother, a sister, and a brother. She has never forgiven them for hurting her father, or for hurting her. Slaying them is her greatest passion in life, and she is drawn to the sensation of the execution, lusting for their blood. Strange, how much like one of them she has become.
{History;;}
It all began with Hector DiGeorgio. He was a powerful Italian nobleman, bent on turning his two sons into the most prosperous men in the country. His eldest son, Antony DiGeorgio stood to inherit the massive wealth of their family. The younger son, Markion DiGeorgio, was to be married off to a prosperous and wealthy Russian heiress. The young woman could not inherit her considerable sum of money until she was safely married. The woman was beautiful, with blue eyes that were so soft and changed so often that men swore they were violet, accented by her soft golden curls that in certain lights looked silver. Markion fell into instant and jealous love with her, counting down the days until their marriage. However, problems were to arise.
Ekaterina had met someone else, someone who she loved more. Someone she chose over the slightly crazed and jealous younger son of an Italian nobleman. She fell in love with his older brother. Antony, for his part, tried not to let his brother's love marry him, but the charming creature told Hector that if she could not marry Antony, she would never marry, and her money would go to the Russian government. Hector did not give his son a choice. Antony married the woman he had loved all along, and his brother Markion vanished, not to be heard from for years.
Antony and Ekaterina were happy, and over time, had two lovely daughters. The eldest they named Marieke. She was born their first year of marriage, and dearly loved. When Marieke was four, her sister Bianca was born. The two were very close, and they did everything together. For seven years, everything went well for the young family. When Marieke was eleven, and Bianca seven, their mother went into labor with her third and final child. Antony was dispatched for the doctor, while Marieke did her best to keep her mother comfortable, and her sister quiet. This was the night of Markion's return.
He came through the window, and startled, Marieke shoved Bianca under their mother's bed. The contractions were strong, so much so that Marieke could see them rippling across the woman's belly. Markion leapt upon the bed, shouting that if he couldn't have Ekaterina, no one could. That night, Ekaterina turned into a Vampire. Bianca didn't know, and Ekaterina swore Marieke to secrecy. That night, the son that Antony and Ekaterina had decided to name Markion, was delivered still-born.
Three years passed. Ekaterina had changed, everyone said it was from the loss of her son. She had paled considerably, and never left her home. The eyes that had once only seemed violet actually were, the hair that was such a gold it could have been silver, was. Bianca thought that her mother was ill, and spent all day reading to her. Marieke spent her day trying to invent stories as to why there were no small animal problems in her home, and disposing of the corpses her mother left behind. There was no getting around it, Ekaterina had changed.
One night, Marieke awoke to the sounds of whimpering and gasping from the next room. She entered her sister's room, only to find her mother in a bloodlust, her whimpering child clamped between her jaws. Marieke screamed, throwing herself at her mother. Ekaterina loosed Bianca, and turned on Marieke, picking up Bianca's dressing table, and shattering it against a wall. The fourteen year old Marieke was cornered, and scooting away from her mother, her hand found a splintered piece of wood. picking it up, she drove it through her mother's heart.
Both Ekaterina and Bianca died that night. Marieke disposed of the bodies before her father could find them, and told him that it was a burgeler. Grieving for the death of his wife and younger daughter, Antony relocated himself and his one surviving child to London, hoping to put the horrors of the past behind them. Marieke realized that she could no longer keep silent about the other world that she knew existed, a subculture of Vampires. She has sworn she would find her uncle, and kill him. On the streets of London, Marieke became a Slayer.
