[Cerith, Ceridwen]
{Gender;;} Female
{Age::} seventeen
{Height;;} five feet six inches.
{Status;;} Mortal.
{Occupation;;} Surgical and clinical nurse.
{Appearance;;} A well-built, full-figured girl, but not so large as to appear overweight, but enough to seem curvaceous and shapely. She has soft cheeks and a pale complexion, as well as plump, pink lips. Her eyes are a soft, stunning sea green, and are warm and inviting. Also, she has the eyes of someone who is most inquisitive, echoing her great interest in the world. She has long, pale eyelashes and narrow, tendered eyebrows.
Her nose is quite wide, but not obstructively. It doesn't misfit her face or protrude too far. It seems just right for her.
Her hair is a delicate shade of blonde, without a fringe or any staggering at all. It is feathery, about the neck and where it has been cut, but it is almost always tied out of the way beneath a headscarf so to keep things hygienic.
{Personality;;} For someone in such a caring profession, and for someone so young, Ceridwen can be a very severe woman. Her sometimes strict personality is due to her deep desire to make people understand what is best for them.
Though this side of her is seen about as often as a solar eclipse. Ceridwen is almost shy, spending a lot of her time in her quarters, the basement floor of number 13 Harley Street. She often seems somewhat defeated, like a beaten wife, and on more than one occasion has been seen scooped off the front step by her surly and unforgiving master. She seems to be too weak, or too ill to be in the nursing profession, but her weakness tends to come from giving blood rather than any physical condition.
She is unbearably kind to any creature, and will help absolutely anyone should they be needy or in pain. It has gotten her into a great deal of trouble before now, but it never puts her off her one need in life.
Without her kindness, and her obvious tendency to collapse on the doorstep, inside she has a strong heart, and a deep belief in her God and her Catholic Church. More than anything she cares about her family, and sends her wages every month back home, to keep them above the poverty line.
{History;;} Ceridwen was born on Christmas Day, 1829 in the snowy village of Glynogwyr, south Wales. She was brought up speaking only Welsh, the language her mother Rhiannon and her father Meredyth.
She learnt to read and write at the age of four, and then began to attend the small girl's school in the nearby town of Blackmill, where she began to learn the English language. At nine, she left school and became a maid in the house of the Mayor of Glamorgan, and was quickly promoted to kitchen. She became good friends with the mayor's son, Rhys.
Together, Ceridwen and Rhys started to explore the house gardens. It was a frost-coated February morning when they found a man at the gate.
He was forlorn, tired-looking as if from a long journey, and unconscious, led across the wooden slats. Together the two children managed to carry him into the grounds, and call for help. It was put under Ceridwen's attention to make sure the man did not suffer too much.
It turned out he was a biology professor from the university of Cardiff, sent up into the Brecon Hills to search for rare species of plant. He had got lost, and for days searched for a route, before finally finding the mayor's hillside residence.
He took Ceridwen to the university, age eleven, where she started to work in the hospitals to help the nurses. She trained until she reached the age of sixteen, when she was given her colours as a fully trained nurse. For want of more money, knowing her parents would not be able to survive on the little income she was sending to them, she moved to London, having no idea where she would go, or what job she would do.
She found herself under the harsh matron of City Hospital, London, caring for patients suffering from consumption. She would spend her days attending hoards of coughing and spluttering men, women and children, most of whom lost their lives to the horrific tuberculosis germ.
After a year's emplyment she began work with respected and reknowned doctor James Lancet, and he took her under his wing as almost an apprentice. She found herself among the doctors more often than the nurses, and learnt things she never would have done had she stayed on the ward. When James moved his surgery to 13 Harley Street, he chose Ceridwen to accompany him. She was the first person to come to his aid after he was infected.
It is Ceridwen who, when he is in times of need, will draw blood from her arm into a cup, to satisfy her master's bloodlust. Hence she is often so weak. Anything Doctor Lancet requires, Ceridwen is ordered to do it. And every task she must do is done well.
